Selecting the Right Study Program in Sweden

Sweden is increasingly becoming a popular study destination for international students. Sweden is known around the world for its high-quality education and diversity of academic studies it offers. To get into the right programme and course, one must start researching and preparing for the same few months sooner.

Research and Decide

Research as to which course and universities you want to attend. Go online and search about courses and universities in Sweden. Visit the respective websites of the Universities and know more about them and the programmes and courses they are offering. 

Select and Apply

Choose your University, programme and location. Check the admission requirements for the course and university you wish to apply to.

General Admission Requirement

Successful completion of upper-secondary education in Sweden or Overseas 

Specific Admission Requirement

First Cycle (Undergraduate) Programme: It includes higher education diploma and Bachelor’s degree. For admittance to the first cycle programme, applicant must hold a certificate of an upper-secondary, i.e. high school education.

Second Cycle (Master’s) Programme: It includes degree of Master- one year or two years. Applicants to Masters' programmes must have finished a bachelor degree (first cycle) of at least 180 credit points from a Swedish Higher Education Institution or from abroad, or have an equivalent qualification.

Third Cycle (Doctoral) Programme: It includes Degree of Licentiate and PhD (Degree of doctor). Applicants must hold a second cycle degree, or completion of 240 higher education credits of which 60 must be second cycle, or equivalent qualifications from abroad.

English Language Requirement

For courses and programmes where the language of instruction is English, the admission requisite is the English language proficiency. 
It can be English education proof at upper secondary (high school) level in Sweden (English 6/English course B), or the official scores of an internationally recognised test- TOEFL or IELTS.
  • TOEFL/IELTS Scores: The official TOEFL/IELTS score must be sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS) to the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). 
Apply on time with all the supporting documentation. After thorough evaluation of the qualifications and educational credentials, the final admission call is made. If you’re accepted, an admission letter would be issued by the University.

Apply for Scholarships and Student Visa

Check about the different scholarships or grants available in Sweden. Visit the official website and know about the dates and deadlines.

After getting admission, apply for a visa at the competent Sweden representative authority at your place of residence or online through the Swedish Migration Board. Read the visa details carefully and thoroughly. Apply on time with necessary documentation.
