Admission Procedure for Doctoral Degrees in Sweden
Admittance to Doctoral programmes in Sweden is managed by each university separately. Universities enumerate PhD positions on their websites. Check the websites of the universities you are interested in to find out more about their admittance requirements and application procedures for PhD studies. A few departments have fixed application dates and deadlines, while others accept students on an ongoing basis.
General Admission Requirements
You must:
- Hold a Master’s degree with a focus on the same subject as the intended domain of subject area.
- Have a completed course of at least 240 credits of which 60 credits within the second (Master’s) cycle
Specific Admission Requirement
Specific admission requirements are laid down by the individual departments that have advertised the position. Specific admission requirements vary from subject to subject. These requirements basically include: knowledge acquired in higher education, professional experience, or any other qualifications obtained.
English Language Requirements
For courses and programmes where the language of instruction is English, the admission requisite is the
English language proficiency. The official scores of an internationally recognised test- TOEFL or IELTS must be submitted.
