Standardised Tests for Higher Education Institutions in Sweden

The Swedish system of evaluation is different from many existing academic grading methods in other countries of the world today. This system gives flexibility to the students to be assessed through course work, examinations, and the marks given by teachers over a period of time rather than single formal examination to judge the completion secondary education.

Standardised tests in Sweden serve as a means for the teachers to compare performance of the student with the performance of the national average and thus, adjust his or her scale when it adds up to giving a final score. They use tools to get an equivalent and equitable evaluation of the pupil’s knowledge in comparison to the national curriculums. The Swedish national school board-“Skolverket” works on delivering the assessment guidelines to the teachers of elementary and secondary schools.

In Sweden standardised tests for Swedish, Mathematics and English are used in 3rd, 5th and 9th grade. All the tests are compulsory. In the 3rd grade the pupils are tested in Swedish and Mathematics, in 5th and 6th grade they are tested in Swedish, English and Mathematics, and in 9th grade they are tested in Swedish, Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.

Students are required to demonstrate their English proficiency through internationally recognised English tests- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

Swedish Language Test

Test in Swedish for University Studies-The Test in Swedish for University Studies-“TISUS” is a qualification intended for foreigners to demonstrate their Swedish language competency. It is meant for those students with a foreign high school who wish to continue their academic studies in Sweden.
