The funding for the third cycle programmes comes from government and external sources, including the government research financing authority, foundations, and the private organisations.

Student Finance for Students Studying in Sweden

The higher education institutions in Sweden do not charge tuition fees for Swedish students and for EU/EEA and students from Switzerland. Therefore, student finance is designed to cover living costs and the literature and textbook costs.

Eligibility Criteria: Everyone under the age of fifty-four can apply for student finance for an utmost period of 240 weeks.

Student finance consists of a scholarship and a loan. The student loan is required to be paid back on a monthly basis before the loan receiver is of 60 years. The amount of the monthly payment is decided by the debt-size and the rate of interest, and is likewise adapted to the receiver's income and ability to pay.

Student Finance for Swedish Students Studying Overseas

Swedish students who desire to study in another country can apply for student finance. To receive the student finance, the higher education institution abroad must be acknowledged by the Swedish Council for Higher Education or the Swedish National Board for Student Aid.

The sum of the student finance varies according to the study destination. Financial support is also granted for tuition fees, travel expenses and insurance coverage.

Swedish National Board for Student Aid-CSN

The CSN-Swedish National Board for Student Aid is in charge for managing and operating student finance. For details see official website www.csn.se
